Due to their size, their large teeth and the places where they usually hunt, these sharks are considered a threat to humans.
#10 DUSKY SHARK
According to the data from the International Shark Attack Archive, this fish is responsible for six attacks, one of them with fatal consequences. It measures on average more than 9.8 feet long, although specimens with a formidable length of up to 13.7 feet have been found. It inhabits all oceans, but especially in the Western Atlantic Ocean and can be found from the shores to the end of the continental shelf and from the surface to more than 1300 feet deep. Dusky sharks migrate to Ecuador during the winter months. Its size is a danger to humans and its bite can match the awesome strength of 132 pounds per 0.07 inches.
#9 COPPER SHARK
These terrible carnivores prefer to inhabit the wild seas. You can find them between zero and 325 feet deep. They measure up to 8.2 feet. According to the International Shark Attack Archive, members of this species have attacked 36 times, although only one of those episodes ended in death. They may not be serial killers, but with those teeth, it can sure cause a lot of pain.
#8 BLACKTIP SHARK
This predator is easily recognizable. It measures on average 8.8 feet long and is characterized by having the tips of the dorsal fin, the pectoral fins and the lower lobe of the caudal fin colored darker than the rest of its body. This pigmentation disappears with age. It is a rather shy animal that prefers to eat fish by bursting rapidly through schools. What makes this specimen scary is that it lives between 0 and almost 100 feet deep, so it is common for it to cross paths with humans. According to the data collected, it is responsible for 45 attacks, although only one of them ended in death. In addition, it is behind 16% of the Florida shark attacks. It’s the terror of all surfers!
#7 SAND TIGER SHARK
To date, 77 attacks have been carried out by this shark and only one has been fatal. It is characterized by having a gray or brown pigmentation on the back. Some individuals may have dark or reddish spots distributed throughout their body. Its imposing size of up to 10.4 feet in length, has earned it the reputation of being a man-eater, when in reality it is not as fierce as the sharks that follow. It lives between 6.5 and 626 feet deep, from time to time it must rise to the surface and get some air in its stomach to keep it afloat. It is an endangered species because each female only has one or two young per year because the larger fetuses end up eating the smaller ones in the uterus of their mother. They are murderers even before they are born! Its pointed teeth have a main ridge with two smaller ridges on the sides, forming a painful row of large tips surrounded by smaller tips in the jaw, truly chilling.
#6 SHORTFIN MAKO SHARK
This predator has been implicated in 33 incidents with humans, of which 2 ended in unprovoked deaths. It lives offshore, from the surface to 492 feet deep of the world’s oceans, except in the Arctic and Antarctic as it prefers hot and tempered waters. The largest specimen found reached an impressive 14.7 feet in length. It feeds on swordfish and even small cetaceans, which it reduces by biting them from below to pluck a fin or pieces from the abdomen. It is the fastest fish in the world because it reaches an incredible speed of 61.6 feet per second. With this amazing impulse, it can jump up to 13 feet out of the water. Because of all this, it is extremely dangerous since there have been attacks on fishing vessels, and it has even jumped into them, endangering its occupants. Not even on a ship are people safe from this predator.
#5 OCEANIC WHITETIP SHARK
According to the International Shark Attack Archive, he is responsible for only three deaths, but his record is certainly a lot bigger. It lives in ocean waters between zero and 164 feet deep, preferring warm waters. It is distinguished by having fairly rounded fins with white terminations. Their front fins look like paddles when they are opened wide giving the impression that it is an innocent dolphin, but in truth it is a very aggressive animal that feeds on all kinds of fish, even an investigator saw it behind a whale eating the excrement that came out. But that is not the worst; it is an opportunist predator, who takes advantage of misfortunes, such as plane crashes and shipwrecks, to unleash his voracious appetite. For example, during World War II, the Japanese sunk the American cruiser Indianapolis and between 60 and 80 sailors died devoured by these sharks.
#4 BLUE SHARK
It is a dangerous species for the human being, having been involved in 34 attacks, 4 with death as a result. Fortunately for divers, it is easily recognizable by its slender body, the intense metallic blue color on its back and the long, thin fins. It measures 8.2 feet in length, usually hunts at night and lives in cold seas whose temperature is between 44.6 and 60.8 degrees Fahrenheit. They are terrible predators being able to eat marine mammals, birds and the nets they find in the ocean. Its disturbing jaws have triangular and curved teeth whose edges resemble an electric saw ready to kill.
#3 BULL SHARK
It is also known as “Zambezi shark”. According to statistics, it is responsible for 139 attacks on people, of which 27 ended up with fatalities, but it is thought that the number is bigger. It lives in surface waters between almost 100 feet deep, can reach 11.1 feet in length and has a special gland in the kidney that allows it to store salt water and expel fresh water from its organism. The result is that it can swim across rivers for periods longer than a year becoming extremely dangerous. It is normal to find it in rivers such as the Amazon, the Mississippi or the Ganges, hunting in places frequented by humans. Its attack is fast and lethal, when hunting; it can reach 11.8 miles per hour of speed from one moment to another. It atrocious bite has an unbelievable force of 1350 pounds, enough to kill a person or mutilate her/him.
#2 TIGER SHARK
It is the second most dangerous shark in the world. He has participated in 139 incidents, 31 of which ended with deaths. Unlike other sharks, the tiger shark doesn’t reject human flesh. It lives in the seas of the whole world, although especially in the warm waters of the Central Pacific. Its name is due to the fact that it has a series of stripes similar to those of a tiger on the back that serve to give an idea of its ferocity. The largest specimen had an extraordinary length of 18.04 feet. It eats almost anything; even car plate in the stomach of a tiger shark has been found. When it bites, it moves his head back and forth making it teeth work like a saw. These sharks are sturdy and their tip is askew. They are designed to break hard surfaces, tear flesh, break turtle shells and break bones with great ease.
#1 GREAT WHITE SHARK
This is the most dangerous shark in the world. He is involved in 431 incidents, 80 with fatalities. It reaches a towering 24.6 feet in length. In its mouth there are three thousand arrow-shaped teeth and serrated edges that can exceed 2.7 inches in height. Behind each main tooth there is one or two teeth sprouting, ready to replace it if it falls. The white shark can close its jaw with a huge power between 12 and 24 tons. It has terminations on the front end of its face that collect the vibrations of the water and allow it to detect its prey. Also, it can locate a little blood miles away. When it wants to attack it puts himself under his victim, taking advantage of the camouflage its skin gives it, darker on it back and white on it belly, and at the right moment he attacks. When it bites, it shakes its head to pull out as much meat as possible. The result is frightening. If the prey is small, it is devoured at once and if it is large, it will tear off a piece of the body and then return and finish it off. Contrary to what one thinks, this shark dislikes human flesh, so it only bites to hunt, after which it retires without having eaten almost anything. The trouble is that these bites usually involve the loss of a limb. Most dead people were not devoured, they just bled to death.
These were the most dangerous sharks in the world. If you are now afraid of going to the beach, comment and share.
Until next time!
