THE BIGGEST DOG BREEDS IN THE WORLD

Dogs are loyal and caring animals. But besides their enormous hearts, some of them are also huge in size. Let’s know the biggest dog breeds!

#10 Komondor

Oops, I think someone was cleaning up and left the mop in here. Oh no, it was actually a Komondor! Don’t judge me, anyone can get confused with that look.  This particular specimen comes from Hungary and his unique style steals the show. Right? But this is also one of the biggest dogs ever. He reaches a maximum height of 27.5 inches at the withers and weighs up to 130 pounds. Can you guess why? That’s right, only the hair weighs up to 15.4 pounds! So, imagine now the adventure that results from giving him a bath.  The great Komondor is a funny friend, a little independent, but very protective with his family. You’d better get him away from strangers because he won’t give them the best welcome.

#9 Leonberger

Clear the way, the big lion is coming. I didn’t mean you, Simba, I said the big lion, not the Lion King.  I’m sorry, but this dog deserved an introduction as considerable as his height. This big guy and those with abundant hair are very alike, but it’s not just a coincidence, because he was created for that!  “Yeah, that’s right. And you know how they did it?” Well, the idea came up in a Germany city called Leonberg, in order to have a breed that resembled the animal symbol of its coat of arms. “Like a lion, grr.” Sure, Dustin! After several generation of breeding the result was this beautiful plus-size dog. A Leonberger grows to a maximum height of 30 inches at the withers and weighs up to 170 pounds. The same as his outer, his personality also reflects generosity: they are quiet, playful, quick-learners and get along well with children and pets.

#8 English Mastiff

his enormous height may intimidate you a little bit, but don’t get fooled, this is one of the kindest and most loyal dogs that exists.  This big boy belongs to one of the oldest breeds: he was brought by Romans from Great Britain to confront enemies in wars. He grows to a maximum height of 30 inches at the withers and reaches a weight of 230 pounds. Wow, no one would believe it as he has that svelte figure!  The English Mastiff is known for being the heaviest dog in the world. But inside that rough body there is a kindly, affective and little clumsy friend. Just have patience with him. His heart is huge!

#7 Black Russian Terrier

This dog truly commands respect, and not only for his height but because he comes directly from army lines.  The Black Russian Terrier is a breed created by the Soviet Army in order to get an ideal species to perform different tasks. Sort of… The strongest breeds were crossed in different occasions, resulting in this giant that can reach a maximum height of 30 inches at the withers and weigh up to 132 pounds. His pedigree’s nature makes this dog have a great courage, be very agile and exquisitely intelligent. Eh … whatever you say, Chuki.  The Black Russian Terrier is an excellent sport partner, because he is playful and hyperactive. Mind you, I recommend saving a lot of energy if you want to get him as a pet.

#6 Great Pyrenees

The Great Pyrenees has his roots in France and Spain and is known by his elegance and majesty. But if there is something that stands out at first impression, it is his big size. He grows to a maximum height of 31.5 inches at the withers and weighs up to 100 pounds. The Great Pyrenees is a perfect shepherd, his immense fur allows him to get camouflaged among the sheep. Yes, I did. But that only makes him more huggable!  He is quiet, loving with kids and very devoted to his family. But don’t treat him just like any other pet, this big guy has belonged to royalty!  In the middle ages, his extraordinary bearing delighted French Monarchs, so he became the official dog of the court.

It’s very usual to see super-dogs in movies, but have you ever seen one in real life? This breed was the Muse of painter, Sir Edwin Landseer, who named the dog like this.

#4 Kangal Shepherd

You would be shocked to know the adventures this dog has been embarked on, like that time when Hugh Jackman played a character belonged to the nobility, or when cats tried to control the world. The Kangal Shepherd has always good stories, and this is because he is one of the oldest canines ever. It is thought he was already with human beings since the time when ancient Mesopotamian civilization begun to form.  But let’s talk about what is impressive at first sight. It couldn’t be any other way, Indiana. The height of this big friend is 32 inches at the withers and he weighs up to 145 pounds. These sizes are very helpful to protect sheep. However, he is also a well-known livestock guardian and companion dog. You can call him Turkish Kangal or Anatolian Shepherd as well.

Beyond that, this canine is famous for his gigantic height. Thanks to his really large paws, he stands up to 32 inches tall and can weigh up to 175 pounds. But often they can be taller. For example, the Great Dane, named Zeus, who got into the Guinness Record Book for being the tallest dog, 44 inches!  If you want to pet him, I must warn you this great friend has so much love to give, so you’d better mentally prepare for his hugs!

#2 Irish Wolfhound

How to forget that time when Robin Hood was cruelly dumped. Ouch, poor Robin! Not even me could get over it.  Fortunately, a doggy partner was there to help him fix his broken heart: The loyal Irish Wolfhound. This dog is one of the largest in the world and also the most gentile, kind and sensitive ever, that’s why he is currently known as.  Although …  maybe you have your doubts when I tell you this dog , that comes from Irland, was indeed used to hunt enormous beasts and bring down soldiers in wars. This dog is up to 34 inches tall and reach a weight of 120 pounds. Absolutely, but that unbelievable physique made him the star in combat tournaments, impressing even Julio Caesar! If you want this dog as a pet, I recommend saving energy because he will leave you breathless.

And now, what you were waiting for! The answer of the trivia! I will tell you the breed of The Simpsons’ dog. Santa’s Little Helper is an English Greyhound.
