The Smallest Dogs In The World

It’s said that the best perfumes come in small vessels, will it be the same for dogs? Whichever the breed is, some canines are so small that are capable of conquering your heart with a simple tail movement.

# Harlequin

This dog is so small it barely surpasses the size of a can of soda. It has a height of 3,5 inches and, like many other small puppies, it can fit in the palm of any person’s hand.

It was born in Bellshil, Lanakshire, Scotland and lives with its owner Adleigh McCluskey. She says that she always needs to be careful with Harlequin because every time she takes it out for a walk it can’t use a dog leash like normal dogs, instead she needs a ferret harness to take her out. Isn’t it the cutest thing ever?

And if it wasn’t enough, it was a contender for the smallest dog in the world in the Guinness Records.

# Dancer

Dancer is a chihuahua with long hair that weighs 1.12 pounds and measures 5 inches tall.

Its owner is Jenny Homes, who got it when her neighbors abandoned a pregnant and damaged Chihuahua, she saved her and 2 weeks later the babies were born and the second one was Dancer, which had the size of a thumb. After the veterinaries warned Jenny that it would be better if the dog was sacrificed because health problems could come and get worse with the time, but she didn’t accept it giving the dog an opportunity to live.  She’s truly a dog lover! 

It was born the 8th of June in Lake Country and its name was inspired in a Garth Brooks’ song. Every time she’s in the house she stays with the dog its little corral, but when it’s taken out for a walk, it’s carried in a baby carriage so it’s out of danger and safe from other animals.

# Scooter

Scooter is a Maltese puppy that has white hair and measures 3,14 inches tall and 7,8 inches from the nose to the tail. It’s so little it can fit in a teacup! 

It was born with other two puppies in Gisborne, New Zeeland and stopped growing after two months. Before it was adopted by its actual owner, it was named Pee Wee, but that name was changed because it denoted inferiority. 

This little dog eats from a cup of eggs three times a day and sleeps in a shoe box. 

Its owner is Cherly McKnight, who told the New Zeeland Association press that during the first weeks she shared with Scooter, she didn’t love it but with the time, she started to like the dog o the point they were inseparable. She made a shirt using a purple sock so she could easily see the dog in the house and avoid accidents.

Miss Cheryl says that after a terrible accident with a pet she didn’t want to have another again, but this changed when her sister, who raises dogs, gift her Scooter.

# Tom Thumb

This is a mix between a Chihuahua and a Jack Russel and it barely measures 4 inches in length, which makes it even smaller than a guinea pig. It was a candidate for the title of the smallest dog in the world in the Guinness World Records.

Its owners are Susan and Archie Thompson, who were in love with Tom and the other puppies that were born in their house from West Dunbartonshire, Scotland because they had more company.  The little Tom is the third part of its brothers in height and can easily fit in the hand of Susan Thomson. 

The Thomson family say that at the beginning, they thought Tom could die at any moment because of how little it was when born, but they weren’t right and with the time the dog was getting stronger. In despite of its height it has a big spirit and isn’t intimidated by anyone, even if its bigger than it, not even its bigger brothers and every time is lunchtime, it is the first in line and it hangs so strong to its mother that when she lifts herself, Tom remains hanging.

# Beyonce

No, is not the singer. Beyonce is a little mix of Dachshund that barely reaches 4 inches.

Her story is a bit tragic because her mother Casey was pregnant and lived in the streets, she was programed to have a euthanasia but was saved by The Grace Foundation. The day Beyonce was born, the problems continued because she was born without life sings, so the veterinary had to give her CPR to revive her, which was successfully accomplished.  

However, she was so little the experts had no doubt that she would survive. Luckily, they were wrong and Beyonce was getting stronger with the time. 

Thanks to this story, Beyonce is an ambassador of The Grace Foundation, an organization that has the objective of reducing the animals’ euthanasia and foment the sterilization and castration.

# Danka

In 2004, a little 2 years old dog named Danka from Revuca, Slovakia was named as the smallest dog alive in the world by the Guinness World Record Book, taking the title from the Florida dog called Brandy. This long haired chihuahua easily calls the attention in its country because it only measures 7,4 inches in length and weights around 1.7 pounds.

The owner of the lovely Danka is Igor Kvetko, who noticed that his pet was very little and didn’t grow with the years so he decided to contact the Guinness World Record. 

He said: “I finally got the certificated that confirmed what I thought, she was the smallest dog alive in the planet”

A curious fact about this little dog is that it didn’t like dog food, it ate crushed cookies and ate less than a kilo daily.

Danka died in 2006 being replaced by the little Ducky.

# Brandy

This is another Chihuahua that won the title of the smallest dong in the world given by the Guinness World Record.  This little dog only measures 6 inches from the nose to the tail and won the title in 2005.

Its full name is Heaven Sent Brandy and is a Chihuahua from Florida, United States, where she lives with her owner, Paulette Keller, who loves dressing her with a Hawaiian pink suit and carry it in a sheepskin bag. 

She says that Brandy was born un 2003 weighing only 2 pounds and it couldn’t even bark because its lungs were very little. Respect to its care she said: “With a dog like this, you need to be careful, she can’t even jump over things because her legs are really small”

Brand got popular when she was known, so much that she appeared on television programs and was part of an exhibition in a casino with the biggest dog in the world.

# Ducky

Again, this is a chihuahua that won the Guinness World Record title as the smallest dog in the world in the year 2007 and its name is Ducky, who won the title after Danka Kordak from Slovakia, a chihuahua that measures 5.4 inches tall. 

It has a straight hair and measures 4.9 inches tall. It might one of the smallest dogs in the world but It’s smart, of course, this according to its owner who says that is the most intelligent dos she ever had. 

Its owner, Miss Lisa Messier, bought the puppy for the high price of $5.000 when it was barely 13 months. She like to dress her puppy with sued bomber jacket and crystal collars. It even has its own closet with sweaters, scarfs, collars and sleeping clothes. Also, little Ducky likes posing for pictures and it’s even a model.

Miss Messier says that she named it Ducky because he was really loud and likes to bark, but when it tries to bark it makes a sound similar to a duck.

# Boo Boo

This chihuahua is only 4 inches tall and weighs less than one pound. It was at the half of the year 2007 when she won the record of the smallest dog in the world, taking the title from Ducky, who measured 4,9 inches.

Boo Boo’s owner is Lana Elswick from Raceland Kentucky who have raised chihuahuas for over 19 years and have dedicated so much to these pets that she even has a solarium on her yard that she uses as a dog’s house. Lana says that this job isn’t easy and that lot of dogs suffer from hypoleukemia.

She says that Boo Boo was the size of her thumb when it was born and because of the sickness that come with its size, the puppy has been in two life or death situation but was able to save her life with a product that goes straight to the blood called Per Nutra drops.

# Milly

This little Chihuahua was born the first December 1st, 2011 in Dorado, Puerto Rico. Her full name is Miracle Milly and measures only 3.8 inches tall, while in length she isn’t bigger than a Hershey’s, amazing, right? That’s why in February 21, 2013 she won the title for the smallest dog in the world by the Guinness World Record, taking the title away from Boo Boo in Kentucky, United States.

Her owner is the Argentinian Vanesa Smeler, who breeds chihuahuas. She says that when Milly was born, it was so little it weighted less than a pound, it could fit on a spoon and the only way to feed it was with a dropper that fed the puppy with milk every two hours. It was thanks to the dedication and time of its owner that the pet was getting stronger and gaining weight.

Smeler declared that she and her husband, Edwin Dávila, spent lot of time and energies with Milly because it could het easily lost.  Who wouldn’t love it? 

This little pet is so cute and has lot of fans. Also, she enjoys things such a closet worthy of a super model and sleeps like a baby.
